DUBAI OPERA HOUSE - ZAHA HADID

Zaha Hadid Architects have developed designs for a new opera house and cultural centre for Dubai.
The design calls for an exciting new cultural centre in the new Seven Pearls district of Dubai. This landmark development will accommodate an opera house, playhouse, arts gallery, performing arts school and themed hotel on an island in Dubai Creek just off the mainland part of the district.

The gentle winding form evokes images of mountains or sand dunes. Rising out of the ground, this form is both a part of the landscape yet very much a distinct element in the skyline. The opera house will have a seating capacity of 2,500 while the playhouse will have a seating capacity of 800.

CHOCOLATE PENCILS

Japanese designers Nendo have created chocolate pencils for Tokyo patissier Tsujiguchi Hironobu.  The pencils come with a sharpener so chocolate shavings can be grated on top of pastries and desserts. “Chocolate pencils” come in a number of cocoa blends that vary in intensity, and chocophiles can use the special “pencil sharpener” that comes with our plate to grate chocolate onto their dessert.

French luxury-goods company Christian Dior unveiled a line of mobile phones priced from $5,500 or $7,900 and up, driven by demand in new luxury markets such as China and Russia. Created by ModeLabs, the "My Dior" clamshell comes in two versions, both come with a 2.6-inch touchscreen and a 2-megapixel camera. The higher-end model is draped in crocodile skin and festooned with 640 Swarovski crystals--totaling 3,251 carats--and goes for US$26,000.
